ACADEMIC STUDIES

 

As part of our training programme cadets study aviation subjects which can lead to a BTEC Diploma in Aviation Studies. Click on the image for further information.

 

ADVENTURE TRAINING

 

The motto of the Air Training Corps is Venture Adventure  so you can expect many opportunities to explore the adventurer in you. From abseiling, kayaking, mountain biking, rock climbing to Ten Tors there is something for everyone. All activities are voluntary so you can chose which activities you wish to try. CAMPS

 

There are many camps you can attend as a cadet from local squadron arranged camps to Wing, Regional and National camps including at RAF stations where you will explore the Units based at the Station. There are also Aerospace, Drill & Ceremonial camps as well as the RIAT camp. Further details can be found by clicking the photo.

 

DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD

 

The squadron takes part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme supporting cadets at all levels starting at the Blue award all the way to Gold. Cadets can complete all sections of their award through the RAF Air Cadets or can use external activities to be included. Further details are available by clicking the image

FIELDCRAFT

 

Cadets are taught basic fieldcraft skills at Squadron level by Authorised Fieldcraft Instructors. Once the basics are learnt cadets can attend Wing arranged fieldcraft activities to learn greater detail before attending Regional fieldcraft events.

FLYING

 

Putting the air in Air Cadets we conduct both powered flying in the Grob Tutor and non-powered flying in the Viking glider. Opportunities to perform both flying and gliding scholarships in which cadets are given intense training to gain their wings. More images are available by clicking on the image.

SKILL AT ARMS

 

Cadets are trained by qualified Weapons Instructors in the safe handling of air weapons, small bore and full bore target rifles. They have to demonstrate their safe use before they venture on the range to conduct practical target shooting.

 SPORT

 

Air Cadets are able to take part in many sports from athletics (both field and track), archery, football, hockey, netball, rugby and swimming. Each subject is conducted in accordance with the relevant governing body rules. Cadets will represent their Squadron at Wing trials and the Wing at Regional trials. Those who excel at the Regional trials can represent their Region at the Corps finals.
